Carrie & Lowell is the seventh studio album by the American musician Sufjan Stevens. It was released on March 31, 2015, by Asthmatic Kitty. The album features intimate and sparse instrumentation, personal lyrics, and haunting vocals, reminiscent of Sufjan’s earlier indie-folk inspired material. Lyrically, the album is an exploration of grief and memory. The exisiting typographic treatment on the vinyl cover, lyric sheet, and the inner sleeve feel vastly disconnected from the themes of grief, love and memory that the album explores. It lacks a cohesive visual identity that feels authentic. Thus, this project aims to redesign a visual identity system for the album that can be translated to all designed outputs such as posters, merchandise etc. in addition to the vinyl and CD covers.
