Nodal (2026)
Typeface Design | Undergraduate Thesis

Nodal is a typeface based on the anatomy of a plant phytomer. A phytomer is the modular unit of a plant through which plants grow and regenerate. Together, these repeating units form the scaffolding of the plant through a system of expansion. The typeface translates this living modularity into letterform. Each glyph is based on the same repeating unit that forms various grid systems.
Designed in three weights: light, regular, and heavy, the typeface operates not only as a typographic system but also as a metaphor for interconnectedness: a reminder that complex forms may emerge from the repetition of simple units. Ultimately, Nodal speaks to the individual connections of unit components within larger structured systems.
